Calligraphy in Zen Buddhism teaches us mindfulness, to be present in the moment, focused on the movement of the hand. Simplicity and minimalism are reflected in the clear aesthetics of the often minimal strokes.
In the Middle Ages, calligraphy was an important skill in monasteries, where monks created manuscripts with elaborate initials and decorations.
